Back to Classics

The Renaissance of Classic Yachting at Cowes

In July 2003 and in a scene normally only found in the Mediterranean, around forty beautifully restored wooden yachts gathered in Cowes on the Isle of Wight for the second British Classic Yacht Club regatta.

Filmed over the four days of the event in July, Back to Classics provides a unique opportunity to take a close look over some of the most beautiful and certainly most cherished yachts of their time.

From small day-boats to 60ft ketches and from a legendary America’s Cup challenger to a century old gentleman’s cutter.  Design classics from the pens of Laurent Giles, Mcgruer, Fife, Nicholson, Holman and Rhodes - all sailing together in a spectacular celebration of times gone by and proving beyond all doubt that the renaissance of classic yachting at Cowes is well and truly underway.

Combining our own exclusive boat-to-boat and on-board footage with interviews and historical narrative, the film is a unique insight into the world of classic yachts – and reason enough, if ever one was needed, to join the growing ranks of ordinary yachting folk who choose wood before fibreglass.

Produced by the company responsible for the highly acclaimed J Class film Return of the J’s, Back to Classics  is available now on dvd and vhs video.
